CREATING HAPPY

Recently, I stumbled upon an interesting article: Can You Be Happy For 100 Days In A Row? At first I thought, Of course I can! What a ridiculous question! but then I read further. The phrase Every day submit a picture of what made you happy! jumped out and tackled me before I could navigate away. As the reality of the commitment the site was asking me to make sunk in, I realized that I couldn't even name one thing that made me happy in the past week. Except for sleep. Being able to shut off the stress of the day by simply closing my eyes made me downright ecstatic. I figured I'd better get on this stat.

I will be posting on my own site, in my own way. Sometimes I will share a picture, but other times it may be an anecdote or just a phrase. Every day, for at least 100 days, I will share something that made me happy - really happy.

This is my journey to happiness:

DAY 2:

Over and over again, I've heard, be of service to others. In the past, that has been my pleasure. I've volunteered at food banks, donated clothes, given my time and experience to children, but lately, I haven't really felt like I've had much to offer. I mean, poverty and depression really doesn't go very far if you think about it.

Today was a tough day. The issues came at me immediately, but I was determined to succeed at this challenge. I am all too aware that my well being depends on it. So despite a few setbacks, I was relentless about changing my thoughts, and in doing so, I noticed a pattern. Every time I remembered that I was offering one of my short stories for free on Amazon on Thursday and Friday, I felt light, clear, and found myself grinning like my son after a candy bar and a can of iced tea.

Creating art in the form of writing is one of my biggest passions and I love, love, love making people laugh and think. I get so excited about having my work read that sometimes, no matter how much I need to buy groceries, the money doesn't matter, and I just have to give pieces of it away in the hopes that my words reach someone via their brain, funny bone, or heart and soul.

Please enjoy KAFE CASTRO for free tomorrow. It's a short read, and I hope that it brings you the same happiness that it has brought me.
